Day 4: July 12, 2017

Phew! Day 4 is over! The ice gang tackled a jam-packed day that left everyone freezing and completely soaked. But the beautiful views and adventurous excursions definitely outweighed the wet clothes we were left in at the end of the day.

Our day started after an hour and a half drive to a farm that lays directly below an active volcano. Some of you may remember the 2010 volcanic eruption at Eyjafjallajokull that left people stranded in European countries for weeks before being able to return home. Here, the ice gang watched a movie that documented the effect of the eruption on the locals.

Skogafoss Waterfall- The ice gang chose whether to hike up the hefty staircase (430 steps isn't that bad, right?!) to the top to see the view from above, or to walk right up to the edge of the water at the bottom and get a little wet.

Vik and Reynisfjara Beach- The ice gang pulled up to this black sand and pebble beach and were completely blown away. We continued the tradition of our jumping picture in the cave, trying to stay away from the ferocious waves of the ocean! We saw Puffins too!!!

Solheimajokull Glacier Walk- The ice gang spent the majority of our day hiking up a glacier covered in ash from the previous 2010 Eyjafjallajokull eruption. We even were given ice picks to help us up to the top! Even though the ice gang left the glacier soaked from the rain storm today, this was a once in a lifetime experience that we probably will never be able to do again. #ThanksSHS #NoKidWithIcePickLeftBehind

Seljalandsfoss Waterfall- For the ice gang members that weren't already checked out after our big glacier walk, the bus stopped for the last time today at a breathtaking waterfall where you were able to walk around the entire bottom, 360 degrees. In our opinion, getting even more wet from behind the falls was worth it!

Ready for a hot shower and a long night's sleep, the ice gang returned to our hotel with yet even more memories made on this wonderful Iceland trip. See you tomorrow!

Signing off,
Maddie, Angelina, Jenna, and Kevin:)
