Day 6: July 14, 2017

Hi Hi!!! The Ice Gang is back and better than ever! We were incredibly glad to have an exciting last full day, but are sad to be leaving soon because this has been a trip of a lifetime.

We started out the morning by visiting a geothermal park and greenhouse where we got to eat hard boiled eggs and bread cooked by the steam of a hot spring! This location also had the infamous "Garbage Hot Spring" which was a previously dormant hot spring that lived a second life as a dumpster and then was revived and regurgitated trash all over the town in 1947. We also had the chance to stick our hand and feet into the water heated by the hot springs.

After that we conquered the harsh weather to see some newly formed hot springs in the hip geothermal area. This didn't last long since we didn't want to get blown away and luckily the bus was waiting to rescue us!

Next we enjoyed some delicious traditional Icelandic cuisine and also had a blast playing piano and dancing. After lunch we went to view a geothermal power plant which has the potential to power almost the entire Icelandic population! We were given a tour by a particularly attractive Icelander and learned all about how geothermal energy is processed and provided to Iceland.

To finish off our day we stopped by a Protestant Church and then wandered and shopped in Reykjavik. Everyone enjoyed finding souvenirs for themselves and their families.

We are looking forward to seeing the blue lagoon and our families tomorrow as well as telling them about all of our amazing adventure!

Peace Out Girl Scouts
